The Manufacturing Skills Conference, held on 3 June 2009, was opened by the Hon. Geoff Wilson MP, Minister for Education and Training, who outlined the importance of the manufacturing sector to Queensland's economy and the need for industry to increase its skills base.
Over 120 delegates were able to hear firsthand the latest information on the skilling and employment needs and issues affecting the manufacturing and engineering sectors. The speakers at the conference were exemplary; leaders in their respective fields and included:

- Daniel Bryan-Curnow, Past F1 in Schools Noosa State High Student
- Nick Juniper, Workforce Development Manager, Manufacturing Skills Australia
- Eddo Roggeveen, Acting Manager - Industrial Projects, Industry Capability Network Qld
One of the highlights of the conference was the F1-in-Schools Champions from Noosa State High School, "The Bullets", attending the conference and being presented with a $4,000 donation to assist them in attending the international finals in the UK in September 2009 (pictured).
MSQ received excellent feedback with delegates particularly impressed at the breadth of opinion and insightful comment made available through each speaker's presentations and the opportunity provided for the audience to comment or question each speaker as necessary.
MSQ is currently working toward the 2010 Manufacturing Skills Conference and Awards Dinner which will be one of the highlights of the education and training calendar for 2010.
