Diploma in Engineering – Technical to provide better career pathway
MSQ has recently addressed industry concerns around the delivery of MEM30505 Certificate III in Engineering technical as a school-based traineeship and the 39175QLD Certificate III in Computer-Aided Design (through VET in schools).
The concerns related to a perceived inequity in awards and employability given that MEM30505 Certificate qualifications place school leavers at the same level or higher than is achievable by an Engineering Tradesperson after a four-year apprenticeship. Additionally the 39175QLD Certificate mirrors a national qualification and disadvantages school leavers once completing the qualification at school.
MSQ developed a framework to overcome these problems based on the MEM50205 Diploma in Engineering – Technical having it approved as a school-based traineeship.
By utilising the Diploma as an alternative pathway, it provides:
- a more attractive program for parents due to the Diploma’s higher level of qualification
- students, 1 QCE point per competency achieved
- a national training package qualification offering greater portability for the student through articulation into further VET study or higher education
- an industrially palatable solution making students more employable by industry
