Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) report finalised
Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) was funded by the Department of Education and Training (DET) to determine why the RPL process was not fully utilised within the manufacturing industry and what steps are required to achieve a greater uptake of RPL and Credit Transfer (CT) across trade qualifications.
From the information gathered a model was constructed addressing the barriers, solutions and outcomes. The objective of the responsive model is to identify the relevant industry barriers to undertaking RPL and CT and to determine strategies to overcome the barriers through consultation and research with relevant stakeholders.
It was found the barriers could be broken down into four sub topics:
- administration
- education
- language
- funding
Addressing the four sub topics, solutions were identified to overcome each of the barriers to achieve the final outcome, greater use of RPL and CT. The proposed model to overcome RPL barriers is as follows:
