Manufacturing Sector Network

MSQ has developed a manufacturing sector network that consists of consultative groups for each of the sectors listed below.

MSQ operates in a partnership between industry and government with the aim of fostering improved coordination and leadership within the industry to strengthen the role employers play in overcoming skills and labour shortages.

The Consultative Groups consist of industry representatives from respective industry sectors throughout Queensland and will focus specifically on sector skilling needs. These sector-specific consultative groups are the key to providing input to MSQ's annual skills report, which will provide annual updates on industry skill requirements and progress against the implementation of the 3 year skills plan (PDF 2.2 MB) submitted to the Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA) in early March 2008. This will ensure that government investment in training will be directed to the needs of industry.

The role of the Consultative Groups are to:

  • Take responsibility for assessing and influencing future skills and training needs
  • Develop strategic directions for industry training and skills development within respective sector/s
  • Facilitate the implementation of strategies through members' existing groups, networks or activities particularly in the regions
  • Encourage business organisations, regulatory bodies, government, education providers and RTO to work together on identifying long term solutions to workforce planning issues
  • Take ownership of developing strategies to address workforce planning issues and accept responsibility for the consequent effects on meeting skills requirements and addressing labour and skill shortages
  • Develop strategic directions for industry training and skills development

The Industry Consultative Groups are a step forward in having an industry owned and driven skilling agenda to address the key challenges facing the Queensland manufacturing industry.
